Common Plumbing Problems, and What to Do

Dripping tap

A dripping tap is usually a worn washer or cartridge. It wastes water and can stain the basin, and it rarely fixes itself. We can repair it or fit a new tap if the old one is past saving.

Leak under the sink

Look for wet cupboards, damp smells or water marks. Turn off the isolation valve under the sink if you have one, put a bowl underneath, and call us. If you cannot stop the water, turn off the main supply at the stopcock — our guide shows you how to find your stopcock.

Running toilet

A toilet that keeps running or refilling is wasting water and often means a worn valve or float. It is usually a quick fix.

Low water pressure

Low pressure can come from a partly closed valve, a scaled-up tap, a leak or a problem further back in the supply. We will track it down.
